About Kiwanis
Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than 550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80 countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. Kiwanis clubs host nearly 150,000 service projects each year. Our History
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart is the second oldest established club in the county and has been in existence since March of 1938. The charter was presented May, 1938, with 27 community leaders as members: Dr. L. W. Barnes, Bert Keck, L. C. Kickliter, Dr. J. D. Parker, T. T. Oughterson, the Rev. L. E. Thomas, C. W. Long, Roger G. Spicer, W. N. Cromer, John J. Moore, the Rev. T. C. O'Steen, J. Fred Evans, Earl J. Ricou, J. R. Pomeroy, Clyde Atkins, Sam A. Matthews, W. L. Sullivan, Charles O. Pittman, Jr., L. C. Clements, A. C. Courson, H. R. Lowery, John E. Taylor, J. A. Jamison, J. J. Ranney, J. B. McDonald, Marvin H. Rowell and R. Ivan Taylor. Dr. Barnes was the club's first president.Fast forward to 1997, and Barbara Essenwine was the club's first female president.
We have a long community history here of which we are all very proud. While Kiwanis is an international organization that serves children all over the world, no two clubs are the same, and we each work to improve the lives of children in our community through the projects selected. Our club has for the past 25 years put varying degrees of emphasis in our Park in downtown Stuart. It has truly become a gem of the community over the last 5 years with the renewed efforts of our members.

Kiwanis Park construction began August, 1991
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart started and supports numerous programs in our schools, K-Kids (elementary 4th and 5th graders), Builder’s Club (Middle school) and Key Club (high school) to teach children how to give back to their schools and their communities. Our signature project, Pancakes & Reading in the Park, celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday and is always the first Saturday in March. We have two major projects through the year that involve clothing and readying underprivileged children in our community for school.
Board & Officers
Our club is governed by an elected Board of Directors and Officers, comprised of hard working men and women.
In order to carry out all projects that our club is involved with throughout the year, each member is asked to join one or more committees. If you are interested in helping with any of the committee, please reach out to the Chair of the committee, or any club member!
