In 1992 Kiwanian Barbara Essenwine and attorney (now Judge) Barbara Bronis, through the Palm City Chamber Education Committee, began the Adopt-A-Class program to benefit teachers and students in Martin County. For $200 businesses or individuals are able to Adopt the Classroom of their choice. Funds go directly to the teacher for academic enhancements for their classroons.
To date the program has raised over $1,100,000.00 that has gone directly into the classrooms of Martin County.
The program is operated now by the Education Foundation.
Involvement in the Adopt-A-Class program provided by the Kiwanis Club of Stuart.
1992 - 2011 The KCOS served as the collection/disbursement entity for the program.
2012-13 In 2012 the KCOS contributed $1,000.00. At the awards program held on September 19, 2012, the Palm City CoC recognized its sponsors, including the KCOS, and presented over $50,000 to the sponsored teachers and schools.
2013-14 KCOS served as the collection/disbursement entity for the school year.
2011-12 KCOS President Nancy Johnson (3rd from left) was one of those recognized by the Chamber.
