Brief History:

In 1988 Ivan Munroe was President of the Kiwanis Club of Stuart. The club met for lunch every Tuesday at Stacey's Buffet. The club's membership level was at an all-time high (approximately 70). The club was active in numerous sponsored youth activities (Builders and Key Club particularly). Well his first term as President came and went before he could fulfill his dream of “Kiwanis Youth Park” which would consist of a picnic shelter, state-of-the-art commercial playground equipment, volleyball courts and perhaps a horse-shoe pit (or two). Other ideas also included a water fountain, basketball courts, and additional custom pavilions. Well lucky for the residents of Stuart, and Martin County, Ivan stepped up when a vacancy for the 1991-92 term of President of the Kiwanis Club of Stuart presented itself. Ivan would be the first and only member to serve twice as President of the club. In 1991 the membership now was nearing another all-time high of 84 members. During his term the club purchased and installed a custom pavilion with a galvalume metal roof, as well as, installed an aluminum fence around the perimeter. Ivan established the “ABC Park Committee” of Andersen, Burson and Crake who monitor the park and add a few tables and memorial benches every year. Kiwanis Park proudly host the Annual Pancakes in the Park fundraiser / social, as well as, “Get to Know Me Picnics” where the Kiwanis Family gets together for some fellowship. In 2007 the newly formed “Aktion Club” had a park cleanup and barbecue.

Special Thanks to Ivan Munroe:

On behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Stuart, thank you Ivan for being a dreamer. Making a difference, one child at a time.
