Kiwanis Campaign for Shade on Hot Playground Completed!!!
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart fast-tracked fundraising efforts to build a shade structure at Kiwanis Park
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart raised $30,000 to build a shade structure to protect the playground equipment for kids at Kiwanis Park. The total cost of the shade is over $80,000 and the City of Stuart is providing the balance of the funds. The contract has been signed and the parts of the shade structures will soon be made at the manufacturer's site in Ocala.
The campaign kicked off with a $1,000 donation at the 2017 Pancakes in the Park and was followed up a campaign including Go Fund Me and Facebook pages.
The shade will allow kids to use the playground during the heat of the day without having to play on hot playground equipment. It will also help to maintain the playground equipment as it will keep the sun from fading and damaging the equipment.
Construction is scheduled for January - February 2018 & will be dedicated at the annual Kiwanis Pancakes & Reading In the Park event on March 3rd, 2018. All of our shade donors are invited to attend and be recognized.
Over the past 30 years, the Kiwanis Club of Stuart has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours of time in the development of the park. The playground is the only barrier free playground on the Treasure Coast – allowing children with and without disabilities to play side by side.
T. T. Oughterson Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Lacey Lingelbach
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart proudly awarded the 2017 T. T. Oughterson Memorial Scholarship to Lacey Lingelbach of South Fork High School. Lacey will be attending UF in its Honors Program.
THANK YOU FOR BUILDING THE PLAYGROUND!!!!
The community build of the newest phase of the Kiwanis Park at Woodlawn was completed over the 2015 Memorial Day weekend as all of the play equipment was assembled. A grand opening was held on July 16, 2015.
This playground is usable by all children but the equipment and ramps allows children with disabilities to have access to slides, swings, and other exciting sensory equipment.
Hundreds of photos of the community build may be seen under the menu item on the left side of this page shown as "Photos" and the sub-menu item "Photos-Picasa."
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart spent 3 years raising funds and planning for the construction of the playground. The $200,000 in project costs are shared equally by the KCOS and the City of Stuart.
If you were there for the build, contributed materials, contributed food, contributed advertising, or in any other way helped make the playground a success, the KCOS and the City of Stuart, on behalf of the children who will use the playground over the coming decades, say THANKS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!
