THE KIWANIS CLUB OF STUART AND THE CITY OF STUART INVITE YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN ALL INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND AT KIWANIS PARK AT WOODLAWN.
Join Us For the Playground Groundbreaking
And then join us in building the playground!!!!!!!
Please use the following volunteer website page to sign up for one or more work shifts:
In the late 1980's the KCOS started construction of a playground located at the intersection of Colorado Avenue and 5th Street in downtown Stuart. Various phases have been constructed in the park and the next phase is now planned, funded and ready to be constructed on May 23rd and 24th.
This playground will be usuable for all children but will have equipment and ramps to allow children with disabilities to have access to slides, swings, and other exciting sensory equipment.
The Kiwanis Club of Stuart has spent 3 years raising funds and planning for the construction of the playground. The $200,000 in project costs are shared equally by the KCOS and the City of Stuart. An article below shows the Club's presentation to the City of the Club's $100,000 share.
The playground will be built as a "Community Build" during the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend - May 23rd and 24th. We need between 75 and 100 volunteers each day in order to assemble the playground equipment. Professional park builders will be on site to guide us through the assembly process.
Please consider joining us during that weekend to help build the playground. All kinds of talents are needed for the project including construction, food service, safety, and child care.
If you have any questions, please contact the Community Build Committee Chairperson, Rachel Hough at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional articles about the playground are shown below.
Thanks for helping the children of Martin County by volunteering for the construction of the all inclusive playground at Kiwanis Park at Woodlawn on May 23rd and 24th.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING FOR CHILDREN WITH SANTA
RETURNED DECEMBER 13, 2014
Congratulations to Rachel Hough and her team for a very successful Shopping Spree this past Saturday, January 13 at Beall’s in South Stuart. We had 73 children, 54 Key Club Members, 1 Santa Kiwanian, 1 proposed member and at least 17 Kiwanis members including a member of the Kiwanis Club of Martin County. We had so many children that we actually used a few “young” Kiwanians to help shop.
A special thanks to Kim Dettori for donating a dental kit of toothpaste and toothbrush for each student.
The staff at Beall’s were as accommodating as ever. With the Beall’s discounts and our $58 per child, the actual of the items purchased was about $80. A total of $4,095.06 was spent by the KCOS on the clothing which was increased with the Beall's discounts to bring the total purchase value to about $4,800. Everyone seemed to have a great time.
This event brings out the true spirit of Kiwanis as you see children able to have their first pair of new shoes or an outfit that is not a hand-me-down.
There are photos of the event under the menu item entitled "Photos" and then under "Photos-Picasa." For privacy of the children, the photos are of some of those who participated in helping the children.
Last year, a child brought Santa a thank you letter and Santa is shown below reading it.
Santa will again attend next years shopping event which will be held on the second Saturday of December 2015.
